Burnage welcome Heaton Moor for pre-season

E-mail Print

Burnage will play Heaton Moor in a pre-season friendly on Thursday 19th August. The game will start by 7:30PM and will be an opportunity for coaches Wayne Morris and Oli Hewitt to take a look at the new players and combinations in the 1s and 2s in preparation for the cup game against Widnes on the 28th and the league campaign to follow.

The format is to be agreed with the 'Moor coaches, but the game is likely to feature large squads and be played in thirds or quarters, and will be played on the 3G pitch.

The bar will, of course, be open for supporters of both clubs.

Burnage welcome new players to Varley Park

Burnage's commitment to providing quality coaching and facilities pays off as new players arrive.

With pre-season well underway and the competitive games only a month away, Burnage are pleased to welcome new players into the fold. Our strong ethos of providing the best possible structure for our players without paying them has attracted several new faces down to the club this summer.

Pictured below from left to right with rugby manager Scott Redmond (centre) are Tom Blaney, Zack Hammond, David Rees and Rowan Watkins.

Tom rejoins the club after making a big impact at scrum-half in the 2008-09 season before stints at Longton and Macclesfield. Now based back in Manchester, Tom joins his twin brother Adam and many friends at Burnage where he will stake a claim for the number 9 jersey.

Zack is a combative hooker who can cover at 7, and brings considerable experience from higher leagues, joining us as he does after spells at Manchester and Stockport. Zack, who was 'attracted by the club's ambition and quality coaching set-up' has settled in well at training; get used to seeing him covering plenty of ground in games next season.

Reesy has plenty of friends at Burnage, particularly the ex-Manchester RFC boys who enjoyed their first season with us so much last year. With the ability to play 10 and 15 and a strong kicking game, Reesy's presence opens up a lot of options for the Burnage backs next season.

Rowan is new to the Manchester area, but obviously has good work colleagues: they were the ones who recommended he join Burnage! He has played for Cobham and at university in Cardiff, and can cover the outside backs. Rowan too has fit in well over the past few weeks and we look forward to seeing him on the field in 2010-11.

Burnage are always open to new players of any ability. As you can see from this and other articles, the club offers top quality facilities, first-rate coaching, a rugby level to challenge all ability levels and a good social scene.

There will be more players to announce later in the week.
